20 September - ISTANBUL

This past week we have been touring around Turkey!! It was incredible. I have dreamed of going to Turkey since I read Dan Brown's book Inferno. Actually, probably since Mom and Dad went there when I was little and I pictured a country shaped like a turkey.

The first day we spent in Istanbul (!!!). We landed and went to lunch at this fancy hotel restaurant, and then went straight to touring. We saw the Hagia Sophia, which used to be a Catholic church that was turned into a mosque which is now open to public as a museum and not used for Muslim prayer anymore. We crossed the street to the Basilica Cistern- it's a huge underground water holder that is no longer in use, but is open as a museum as well. There are 336 marble columns down there! (The final scene of Inferno is down in this cistern).

We walked a bit to the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, and then to lunch.

We had the sweetest view from the roof of our hotel!! We had our breakfasts and dinners up here looking out at the city.
